On Tuesday, the Northampton cross country teams went against Central, Emmaus and Whitehall.

The boys went 1-2 on the day. The victory was against Whitehall 22-35. The losses came again Central 31-28 and Emmaus 43-26.

The girls, who went 0-3 on the day, are fighting through some injuries this season, head coach Dan Benner said. The girls lost by scores of 32-23 against Whitehall, 33-24 against Central and 40-21 against Emmaus.

Despite the losses, there were some strong individual performances. The Kids Lyndsey Gallagher was the overall winner of the race with a time of 20:45.

“She had a great closing kick the last quarter-mile to take the victory,” Benner said. “She ran a tough and smart race. She positioned herself well to give herself the opportunity to go after the win at the end.”

For the boys, Isaac N’jenga had another strong day, Benner said, taking sixth overall with a time of 18:28.

“Isaac has had a very strong start to his season, if he continues to work hard, he could really have an impact this season,” Benner said.

Freshmen Vince Gallagher and Isaiah Tyler both ran solid races again, according to Benner. Gallagher was ninth overall in 18:44 and Tyler was 13th in 19:00.

“This was one of the toughest courses we will run all season,” Benner added. “The kids all ran very tough and this will serve as a great training day as we prepare for the District 11 meet in a month or so.”
