Whitehall Township will begin the second phase of its revamped refuse/recycling program later this fall when more than 8,000 toter carts will be delivered to property owners across the township for garbage collection.
Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. told The Press Sept. 1 he expects to make a formal announcement regarding changes involving refuse collection in the next month or so.
The carts, which are free to property owners, will be delivered in the fall to property owners. The carts used for recycling items will continue for such use.
The refuse carts will have a handle and wheels to make it easier for property owners to take it to the curb.
There will be an electronic chip on each cart identifying the specific property address. Waste Management will pick up the cart specially marked for garbage collection.
Township officials hope the new refuse carts and collection process are as well received as was the recycling program.
In other news, grass collection ends Sept. 30.
However, leaf collection by Waste Management will take place Oct. 3-Dec. 5. The leaves must be placed in open containers. Plastic bags may be used; paper bags may not. The leaves will be picked up the day after the usual trash collection date.
