Stroll on the Parkway is set for Sept. 25 at Hokey Park, IRT

Stroll on the Parkway will be held Sept. 25 at Hokendauqua Park & Playground (HPP) and along Ironton Rail Trail (IRT).

A highlight of the event will be a duck race on Coplay Creek as it meanders through Hokendauqua Park. Committee member Joe Ebner said he estimates 100 plastic ducks in various colors will be entered into the race by individuals who made a donation to the cause.

Proceeds will benefit the Whitehall Township Public Library and its purchase of a closed-circuit television system to assist people with low vision.

“We hope we could buy more than one such piece of equipment for the library. We would be the only library in the area to have one in assisting the blind and visually impaired,” Ebner said.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the donors of the first four ducks to cross the finish line.

Whitehall Township Commissioners President Phillips Armstrong, who initiated Stroll on the Parkway with approval from commissioners, said some of the organizations and businesses participating will be Hokendauqua Trout Unlimited, demonstrating fly-fishing techniques; Whitehall Lions Club; IRT Oversight Commission; Weis Markets, performing health screenings; and high school student organizations, such as the art club.
