Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has informed Whitehall Township officials of major traffic closures at the Route 22/Fullerton Avenue ramps, scheduled with the northbound opening of Fullerton Avenue soon to take place.
Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. informed the board of commissioners during last week’s meeting that northbound work across the new overpass bridge is just about completed. The span was elevated to allow trucks more clearance on Route 22.
“All ramps on southbound Fullerton Avenue to Route 22 East and West will be closed Monday, Aug. 22 until spring 2017. Only northbound to (Route) 22 East stays open,” Hozza said.
Detour signs take motorists from Route 22 onto MacArthur Road, then direct them to Grape Street and Fairmont Avenue.
The PennDOT work schedule listed specific tasks for each day this week; forecasted inclement weather may alter those plans.
On Aug. 22, shifting Fullerton Avenue northbound traffic will be conducted, along with related work.
On Aug. 23, the beginning of nightly lane closures will take place for the Fullerton Avenue phase 2 work and installation of traffic control devices at the east end of the Lehigh River Bridge.
The current southbound detour onto Park Street and Fifth Street will continue until this phase is completed.
