John R. Russek Sr.

John “Pappy” R. Russek Sr., 77, died Aug. 1, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Dorothy (Pingor) Russek for 58 years.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late John J. and Helen (Pacella) Russek.

He was a professional driver and trainer for Bradco Supply, Bethlehem. Prior to that, he was a truck driver and trainer for both Matlack Trucking, Northampton, and ConAgra, Easton. He was a Mack Million Mile Award recipient for his outstanding driving record.

He was a member and union steward of Teamsters Local 773. He was a member of TAP, BCA and APA pool leagues and shot pool at the Palmer Social Hall. He was the inventor of a one-of-a-kind pool cue stand.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Catherine and her husband David Henrie of Slatington; Col. Jacquelyn Russek USAR of Cleveland, Ohio; retired Cmdr. John R. Jr., USNR and his wife Dawn of Orefield; and Michael and his wife Jane of Upper Saucon; six grandchildren, Sarah and her husband Warren Gosdin, Christina and her husband Tech. Sgt. David Bender USAF, and Alyssa, Adam, Erin and Erik Russek; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jaxon, Jayden and Emma; and a sister, Diane and her husband John Baber of California.
