John J. Schubert, 86, of Catasauqua, died Aug. 5, 2016, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg Campus.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Ferdinand and Stella (Christoff) Schubert.
He was the owner of the Garfield Hotel, Northampton, for more than 20 years and owned the Hof Brau Haus, Catasauqua, and the Outside Inn, Northampton. He ran a coal yard and a garage, was a beverage distributor and drove tractor trailer. He was a tuba player and a member of many German and polka bands.
He was a member of the former St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was a current member of Queenship of Mary Church, Northampton.
He was a life member of both Fullerton Fire Company and St. Peter & Paul Hungarian Society. He was a member of Coplay Saengerbund.
He is survived by two sons, John D. and his wife Karen and Thomas, all of Florida; three grandchildren, Audra, Kayla and Thomas; a sister, Margaret and her husband James Firestone of Catasauqua; a sister-in-law, Irene Schubert of Catasauqua; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Frederick Schubert.
