Dr. Chetan D. Khindri, 83, of Macungie, died Aug. 2, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Suzanne S. (Moatz) Khindri. Born in Dhariwal, Punjab, India, he was the son of the late Atma Ram Khindri and Maya Devi.
He graduated from Guru Nanak Medical College in Amritsar and completed residences in general and thoracic surgery at the universities of Texas and Maryland. He was a fellow in cardiovascular surgery at Baylor University School of Medicine under Doctors DeBakey and Cooley.
He was a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon in the Lehigh Valley for over 30 years in both group and private practices. He was a pioneer in bringing innovative surgical techniques to local area hospitals, being the first to utilize a heart-lung machine in the Lehigh Valley.
In addition to medicine, he had a passion for flying. As a private pilot he spent numerous hours in the air, flying as far south as Central America and as far north as Point Barrow, Alaska.
He is survived by his wife; son, Sanjay and his wife Kaitlin; daughters, Reeta, Anita and Niki; brother, Dr. Kuldip Rai Sharma; three grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters.
