William J. Molchany Sr.
William J. Molchany Sr., 89, of North Catasauqua, died Aug. 1, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Mary T. (Filipovits) Molchany for over 66 years.
Born in Egypt, he was a son of the late James G. and Susan (Budihas) Molchany.
He was a section chief for the former Western Electric Corporation, Allentown, for 38 years before retiring in 1987.
He served as mayor of North Catasauqua from 1970-82.
He was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, North Catasauqua, where he was a Eucharistic minister, choir member, caretaker, president and charter member of the Young at Heart group.
Previously, he was a member of Holy Name Society and the former treasurer of Cub Pack 51 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, North Catasauqua.
A 1945 graduate of Northampton Senior High School, he served in the U.S. Navy World War II, Pacific Theatre. He was later reactivated for Korea, having served with the USS Chemung, attaining the rank of BMG2 (t).
He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Calvary Council No. 528, Allentown, and served as a past grand knight and past district deputy.
He belonged to Catholic War Veterans, American Legion Post, Catasauqua, and Western Electric Telephone Pioneers.
He was a past president for Catasauqua Exchange Club and was a charter member of Suburban YMCA.
He was the recipient of four Chaplains Award.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ann Marie and her husband Thomas Pfugler of North Catasauqua; two sons, William J. Jr. and his wife Connie of North Catasauqua and Anthony M. and his wife Diane also of North Catasauqua; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Eric Ochlak, Scott Pfugler, Anthony and his wife Colleen Molchany, Elisa Molchany and her fiance Carmine Pellosie, Mark Molchany, Samantha and her husband Charles Fisher and Kelcie Molchany; a great-grandson, Daniel Molchany; a sister, Dorothy Abelovsky of Kunkletown; a brother, Joseph of Allentown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by two brothers, Robert and Jacob.
There will be a viewing 7-8:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Aug. 5 both at the funeral home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, then followed by a Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. Aug. 5 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 1239 Third St., North Catasauqua, 18032. The entombment will take place at Assumption BVM Mausoleum, Cherryville Road, Northampton.
