Town Watch thanks borough officers

Coplay Town Watch hosted a event July 20 to show appreciation for the borough’s police force.

“I think, in light of what is going on in the country, it is important to tell our police we care and appreciate them,” Coplay Town Watch President Kimberly Fitzpatrick said.

Police Chief Vincent Genovese, a number of Coplay police officers and borough council members joined CTW members who attended the event.

Although the crime rate in Coplay has been descending over the last 15 years, the talk was that an officer is at risk whenever he or she is in uniform.

“It is important that the police are here and rebuilding their relationship with our town watch,” Fitzpatrick said.

A Marine Corps veteran and CTW leader, Fitzpatrick said she is beginning to grow roots in Coplay. Her CTW focus is working with the Coplay police to keep Coplay a safe community, she added.

“I moved to Coplay about two years ago. I lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., and am very happy to be in a small town that is safe,” she said. “It’s a good place to raise my three kids.”

In other matters, Fitzpatrick reported CTW will have a basket auction at Coplay Community Days in late August. CTW has been present and supporting the Coplay Community Days for more than 20 years.
