Following a successful appeal granted by Northampton Borough Zoning Hearing Board July 14, a proposal for the iconic structure at 1464 Washington Ave. - proposed as a church-based social club - now goes to the borough’s planning commission for review and recommendation for borough council.
Decades ago, the structure was the borough’s post office. It has since been home to Sons of Israel Hebrew Synagogue, Catholic War Veterans Post 454 and, more recently, Wonder Kids Day Care Center.
PAJ Ventures LP now seeks approval to utilize the two-story building as a church-based social club.
Borough council heard details of the zoning board approval at its July 21 meeting.
Further details for the proposed use will be from testimony from the applicants when the planning commission convenes Aug. 10.
Also at the zoning board meeting, Willowbrook Enterprises’ appeal was granted to erect new identification signs on its property along Howertown Road, within borough limits.
Scott and Tammy Metzger were permitted a variance to erect a one-story addition to their home at 729 Lincoln Ave.
The zoning board hears appeals when the borough has struck down applications for the use of the property involved.
