MacArthur Road crash claims life of Whitehall man

A 57-year-old Whitehall Township man died at the scene of an accident on MacArthur Road July 20.

According to a press release from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Charles R. Korpics Jr., of 3957 Mechanicsville Road, was pronounced dead at the scene 11:38 a.m. The press release indicated the cause of death as multiple force trauma and the manner of death an accident.

Whitehall Township Police Lt. Greg Bealer said the accident occurred 11:05 a.m. in the 3500 block of MacArthur Road (Route 145) near Auto Zone.

Bealer said Korpics, who was traveling behind a tri-axle dump truck, struck the rear driver’s side of the truck, throwing Korpics from his vehicle.

The accident resulted in the closure of MacArthur Road, from Columbia to Lehigh streets, and the closure of Center and South Church streets to Fifth Street.

According to Bealer, an accident reconstructionist has been assigned to the case.

The accident is still under investigation by Whitehall Township Police Department, Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
