During the July 13 workshop session, township Engineer James Milot briefed the East Allen Township Board of Supervisors on available grants for improvements at Frank’s Corner, the intersection of Routes 329 and 987.
“The Frank’s Corner intersection is our most congested area, and we have a developer willing to work with the township to improve the intersection,” he said.
So far, the township has a commitment from the developer for $75,000 and a $67,000 grant from Automatic Red Light Enforcement (ARLE).
Milot asked the board to give him permission to pursue a multi-modal grant. The new grant requires a 30-percent match by the township. Milot proposed using part of the funds from the ARLE grant to serve as the matching funds.
Northampton County is awarding funds for qualified municipal projects with revenues from gaming. The township proposed a digital sign to be located outside the municipal building.
“What we have now is inadequate,” township Manager Deborah Seiple said. “This sign would replace what we have out there now with something more practical. We can put a lot of information on a digital sign.”
Board Chairman Roger Unangst cautioned the county is proposing a $5 fee to be added to all vehicle registrations in the county. Unangst asked that residents voice their opinion on yet another hidden tax.
“Your registration will just be five dollars higher when you go to renew. Most people will blame the increase on the DMV,” he said.
The next workshop session will focus on recreation plans. Council wishes to explore how space can be used and parks improved. All existing plans will be presented and open for comment.
