Charles R. Mann

Charles R. Mann, 88, of Salisbury Township, died July 17, 2016, in his home. He was the husband of Marianne I. (Schmidt) Mann, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage in June. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late John Harry and Lucy (VanAllen) Mann.

He studied at Columbia University and completed his degree at the University of Buffalo.

He was a mechanical engineer for 28 years at Lucent Technologies, retiring in 1985. Prior to that he worked for seven years at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y.

He was a member of The Telephone Pioneers and president of the eighth grade class of Jefferson School.

He joined the Mountainville Lions Club in 1959 and served as president 1968-1969, 1988-1989 and 1995-1996. He served as fundraising chairman for 10 years, song leader for 20 years and membership chairman since 2002. He was also the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2007.

He is survived by his wife; son, John E. and his wife Lois, of Wind Gap; daughters, Jobette and her husband Greg Balliet, of Allentown, Barbara J. and her husband David Bailey, of Bethlehem, Susan L. and her husband Richard Herschlag, of Easton; nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountainville Lions Club, 1003 W. Emmaus Ave., Allentown, 18103.

A viewing for family and friends will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 21 in the K. V. Knopp Funeral Home, Inc., 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. July 22. A service will be held 10:30 a.m. July 22.
