The long-anticipated and twice-delayed opening of Parkview Pool in Hokendauqua, one of three municipal pools operated by Whitehall Township, is finally set to open today, July 14, barring any last minute issues, including the weather.
Whitehall Township Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. informed the board of commissioners Monday of the good news.
Additionally, Wacky Water Games will be held 5 p.m. this Saturday, July 16, at Parkview Pool, along with lifeguards from Jefferson in Fullerton, Cementon and Parkview competing for bragging rights and a trophy at some wacky races. There are competitive events for children of all ages and for grownups.
Hozza gave a detailed account on the status of Parkview Pool, which in reality, is now a new pool, he said.
The pool has been filled with water several days ago. βIt is crystal clear,β Hozza told commissioners.
A new pump is only one of the upgrades. Extensive repairs, resulting from storms a couple of winters ago, have been completed.
The pool sides and bottom have been plastered with new concrete decking.
The latest delay involved the curing of the concrete and grouting and having lifeguards brush the insides of the pool three times a day.
MidAtlantic MCA of Trenton, N.J., was lauded by Hozza for the exemplary work done at the pool; the job will bode well into the future, Hozza said.
