The former site of Catholic War Veterans Post 354, Northampton, at 1464 Washington Ave., is being proposed for use as a church-based social club. It is one of three appeals that will be heard by Northampton Borough Zoning Hearing Board.
The zoning board convenes 7 p.m. July 14, in the borough hall council chambers to hear the appeal of PAJ Ventures LP, Whitehall, seeking approval to use the structure as a church-based social club for church group activities, such as Bible study groups, youth groups and church-sponsored activities.
Located in a R-3 residential district, the clubhouse is listed as a special use in the borough’s ordinances.
The structure was last utilized as a day care center, and for decades before that was home to the Catholic War Veterans, which has moved to the former convent at Queenship of Mary Church campus. It also was used as a synagogue in the early 1900s.
Also at the meeting, Willowbrook Enterprises is seeking approval to erect new identification signs on their property along Howertown Road. The proposed signs exceed the allowable size.
The third case to be heard is the appeal of Tammy and Scott Metzger, who are seeking a variance to erect a one-story addition to their 729 Lincoln Ave. residence.
