Donald F. Wieder, 68, of Allentown and formerly of Emmaus, died July 9, 2016, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Carlton and Bernice D. (Sittler) Wieder.
He was a 1966 graduate of Emmaus High School, a 1970 graduate of West Chester University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, a 1973 graduate of Temple University with a master’s degree in education and a graduate of Boston University with a master’s degree in fine arts.
He was a member of the Friars Service Fraternity, charter member of Lambda Chi Alpha and was a member of the Inner Fraternity Council.
He worked as a special education teacher and supervisor for the Philadelphia School District from 1970 to 1980, was a producer for KYW-TV in Philadelphia, winning a Keystone Award for Excellence in Broadcasting for the Best Children’s Program “Check it Out” in 1985, worked for the Franklin Institute and lastly was a supervisor for Day Timers, retiring in 2011.
He traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad, loved camping and the arts, was a good friend to many and a gracious host and was a kind and loyal friend.
He is survived by a brother, Bruce and his wife Maggie, of Florida; sister-in-law, Joann Litzenberger, of Emmaus; nephews, Richard and Robert Litzenberger and Brandon; niece, Laurie Litzenberger; aunts, Joyce Salines, Shirley and Margaret; great nephews and nieces; precious cats, Doogie and Murray. He was predeceased by a brother, Terry Litzenberger.
