Northampton Borough Council decided at its June 2 meeting to continue meeting twice a month during July and August, rather than traditionally convening only once each in July and August.
Councilman Robert McHale opposed the suspension of the twice monthly meetings. He said it was too long of a period for citizens to come before council on matters they wanted to present.
Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Sr. said he concurred with McHale’s reasoning, noting citizens should be afforded quicker access to air their concerns.
A vote taken of members by council President Anthony Lopsonzski Jr. was unclear on how each council member voted. A show of hands then followed. Council members Robert Coleman and Edward Pany were the only two on council voting against having two meetings each in July and August.
The vote was six members voting for the twice monthly summer meetings and two opposed.
Council will meet July 7 and 21 and Aug. 4 and 18.
In other news, Councilman Anthony Pristash, building, land and recreation committee chairman, said the borough’s final summer concert is 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Kilts in the Park will perform at Municipal Park, Laubach Avenue and Smith Lane.
