Benefits for families

Several benefits and fundraisers have been organized to help the families affected by the June 30 fire on South Second Street in Hokendauqua.

• Whitehall Township is collecting gift cards that will be distributed to the families. Donations can be dropped off at the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is also a drop box just outside the main doors for after-hours drop-offs.

• A gofundme site has been created to assist the families. At press time, $670 has been collected toward a $5,000 goal. To contribute, visit gofundme.com/2c975rtw.

• The Whitehall Football Booster Club will be holding a fundraiser 6-9 p.m. July 18 at Keystone Pub, 1410 Grape St., Whitehall, to assist the Cruz family, who lost their home and personal belongings. One of the Cruz children, Markes, is a lineman on the Zephyrs football team. A portion of all sales that night will be donated to the Cruz family.

Local business owners interested in donating a gift card for a raffle planned for the event are asked to contact Allie Scarfaro, Booster Club president, at 610-295-3600 or alliescar1@gmail.com.

The Whitehall-Coplay Press will continue to publish details on fundraisers to benefit the families. Send information on additional events to klutterschmidt@tnonline.com.
