Civic Theatre unveils new logo
The sixth annual “Tonys & Tapas” raised more than $25,000 for Civic Theatre of Allentown with about 100 attending at Civic’s Theatre 514 and 19th Street Theatre.
At the event, Civic unveiled its new logo in advance of its 89th annual season.
“Broadway celebrates its best and brightest of the 2016 season by honoring each winner with the prestigious Antoinette Perry Award. We not only celebrate those awardees, but also the inimitable magic that the theater brings into each of our lives,” Civic Board of Directors President Sharon Lee Glassman said in her welcoming remarks prior to the performance, “A Tony Revue.”
Acoustic guitarist Frank M. Flandorffer, Sr. serenaded guests upon their arrival as they walked the red carpet underneath a tent that stretched across 19th Street, closed to traffic for the June 12 event, and into Civic’s transformed scene shop, decorated with set pieces and costumes from Civic productions.
A silent auction was held in Civic Theatre514. Food and drink was provided by Biaggio’s, The Cakesmith, Centro, The Dime, Divine Catering, Kome, Ringer’s Roost, Roar, The Shanty on 19th, Yianni’s and Elena and Joe Pascal, Candida’s and Shangy’s.
A troupe of singers appeared to musically announce the beginning of the live auction, with Ray Starner as auctioneer.
“A Tony Revue,” directed and conceived by Civic Artistic Director William Sanders with music direction by Justin Brehm, featured performances by Dan Becker, Justin Brehm, Melissa Brehm, Andrea Cartagena, Tracy Ceschin, Autumn Colalillo, August Fegley, Brian Foley, Janis Greim, Emilie Leyes, Will Morris and Sarah Nekich.
The 2016 “Tonys & Tapas” Committee is: co-chairs Jason Sizemore and Marie Ann Sutera, and JoAnn Wilchek Basist, Kenn Colodonato, Maria DeFebo-Edwards, Sharon Lee Glassman, John Hedges, Shirley Kline, Will Morris, Kate Pistone, William Sanders and Patty Yurchak.

Bradbury-Sullivan raises for Orlando:In response to the massacre at Pulse Nightclub, Orlando, Fla., the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center raised $5,496 for the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, Orlando, Fla., in less than one week.
There were 408 at a June 16 benefit at Stonewall Lehigh Valley, one of Allentown’s two gay bars. The benefit, “Pray for Orlando: One Pulse, One Life,” was organized by drag performer, Elektra Fierce St. James, who stated, “It is important for us as a community to stick together no matter the distance between us.”
“I’m so proud of our LGBT community for staying strong, for raising these critical funds for our LGBT brothers and sisters in Orlando, and for showing up last night, and all week, to make sure that our community is visible” said Adrian Shanker, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center.
The GLBT Community Center of Central Florida is providing crisis counseling, an emergency hotline and other services for victims, families and community members experiencing trauma in the aftermath of the massacre.
