Elementary artwork graces boardroom

Tracy Smoyer, art instructor at Northwestern Lehigh, made a video, named “Our Year in Art,” showing her students at work.

Smoyer told the school board at a recent meeting, the students were some of the best artists they have.

Their art will be on display for the longest time as the pieces will be in place over the summer.

Some examples of the students’ work included a design with circles used to create a pattern, prints of insects made from parts of other insects, monsters, hex signs depicting “I love nature,” “Four leaf clover for luck,” and a tiger holding a sign.

A Scratch computer program was used said Smoyer.

With that program, the students could use animation, such as a cat capturing different moods with color animation.

There were scientific drawings using analogous colors, those located next to each other on the color wheel.

“Thank you for your support of the visual arts,” Smoyer told the school board.

Board member Paul Fisher said the artwork certainly brightens the boardroom.

Superintendent Mary Anne Wright was also attracted to the colors.

“Look around at the colors,” she said.
