Dr. Richard P. Keim
Dr. Richard P. Keim, 87, of Emmaus, died June 20, 2016, a the Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was the husband of Elaine G. (Richard) Keim. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Pauline L. (Maus) Keim.
He was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Emmaus, received his bachelor’s degree from Moravian College, his master’s degree from Lehigh University and his doctorate from Temple University.
He began his career as an educator in the East Penn School District, then became a professor at Kutztown University and retired as a psychologist. During his career, he administered placement tests for the state for mentally and challenged children.
He served as a Commander with the United States Navy during the Korean War, and spent four years on active duty and 30 years in the reserves.
He was on the Emmaus Council, having served as president and acting mayor at one point, past president of the Ecumenical Food Bank of Allentown, on the Civil Board of Emmaus and part of the Community Garden.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Emmaus, where he was very active.
He is survived by his wife; children, Kerry A. Tichy, of Upper Milford Township, Lisa Taibi, of South Whitehall Township, Susan L. Butkowski, of Hanover Township; siblings, Floyd and Charles and Joyce Graves; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Debra J. Suydam and a son, Craig S. Sr.
