Resident seeks help with alley noise

Northampton Borough Council, at its June 16 meeting, heard concerns from a Cherryville Road resident about activities going on in an alley behind his home.

Paul Casino, of 2725 Cherryville Road, who is no stranger to borough lawmakers regarding his complaints on the issue, said there continue to be car repairs made in the middle of the alley. The work is loud and done late at night, Casino said, adding that beer cans are strewn about the area.

“They (unidentified persons) are parking, taking up half of the alley,” he said.

Council members said Casino needs to be more prompt on registering his complaint, calling police when the events are happening.

Casino said the problem he has in reporting the incidents promptly to police is that he has no way to call it in; he can’t afford a phone.

Casino said he walks to nearby Redner’s Market and lodges the complaint. On returning to his home, Casino said, everything is usually back to normal, and the work and noise have stopped.

Council asked why no one else has come forward from the neighborhood to complain. Casino said there are two women living in the same area but are “scared to death” to say anything.

With summer, the problem has escalated, Casino said, mentioning he has seen as many as 10 people at one time working on cars after 10 p.m.

Councilman Robert Coleman told Casino, “You have to report it.”

Casino said he has discussed the issue with Northampton Borough Police Chief Ron Morey and acknowledges seeing officers patrolling the area.

“I (would) like to ask council members (about) the installation of metal signs - no parking; no standing,” Casino said.

“We will look into it,” council President Anthony Lopsonzski Jr. replied.
