Bath council seeking noise decree
The Borough of Bath is on the move. Issues and initiatives have been and continue to be present throughout this year. The June 6 council meeting was no exception.
Manager Brad Flynn reported council is moving forward on a noise ordinance. He is reviewing other local municipalities’ noise ordinance as he gathers information for council.
Mayor Fiorella Reginelli-Mirabito and council at a recent meeting were surprised no noise ordinance was enacted in the past. An incident that was determined to also be a police matter sparked the discussion. Reginelli-Mirabito said Bath needs a noise ordinance.
Tied into a noise ordinance were recent complaints by residents attending council meetings about police response to complaints. At issue are reports by residents that the police are not visible enough in Bath.
Vice President Michele Ehrgott reported she relayed those concerns to the Colonial Regional Police Department committee. She said the chief and assistant chief are looking into matters concerning Bath. A report from the committee is expected next month.
In other news, ongoing matters, among many, include the work on the development of a new sanitation and recycling contract. Council is in the process of evaluating numerous contract options. Council’s goal is to get the complex contract approved by September or October.
The labor agreement with the street department is in place, and hiring was completed. However, the union contract negotiations drained the solicitor budget. President Mark Saginario has directed Flynn to develop a plan to transfer dollars from other accounts due to the shortfall.
Bath Community Days planning is in full swing. The fire department is in charge of running this year’s event. Music, food, vendors and sponsors are being coordinated.
The planned dog park, with a name suggestion of Paw Park, is an effort of Reginelli-Mirabito and a council committee. Sponsors are lined up, and the location has been selected. The feasibility study for the park is pending. Reginelli-Mirabito said she and the committee expect to “bring it (feasibility study) to council for further discussion in July.”
Reginelli-Mirabito also announced there is a new business in Bath. Galaria 126, at 126 S. Chestnut St., opened recently.
The boutique offers an interesting selection of unique glass, metals, textile and print creations. The owner, Denise Tucker, plans - in conjunction with Greater Bath Chamber of Commerce - a fundraiser to benefit the dog park.
The next borough council meeting is 7 p.m. July 5 at the borough building, 215 E. Main St.
