Northampton looks to lock up playoffs

Northampton’s legion hopes to stay in the front of the pack heading down the final two weeks of the season, as the Kids sat in fifth place of the NORCO standings entering this week’s slate of games.

Following Sunday’s 6-1 loss to Birches, Northampton dropped to 6-4 on the season with eight games to go.

Head coach Mike Bodnar battled through last week’s slate of four games with a 2-2 mark, missing seven players to vacation.

With them all back now, Bodnar looks to keep the team’s foot on the pedal as they head into the stretch run of the season.

“These guys have regrouped multiple times during the year and I don’t see any problems for us getting back into the swing of things,” Bodnar said. “I’d much rather be near the top of the standings then at the bottom. With all the guys we had on vacation last week, I was happy with what we were able to do. We had everyone back for the Birches game and we just didn’t play well, but I think we’ll be all right moving forward. We’ll get everyone on the same page again and keep it rolling.”

This week’s slate of contests included Wednesday’s battle against Palmer (1-6), Friday’s second go-round with Palmer, followed by a doubleheader with Nazareth (7-3) on Sunday.

Wanderers (8-2-1) sit atop the standings, followed by Hellertown (7-2-1) and Nazareth rounding out the top three.

Bodnar is now looking to have his team lock up a berth in the postseason without having to worry about it down the stretch.

“I sure would like to get a playoff spot wrapped up in the next week,” said Bodnar. “That’s not something we want to worry about heading into the final week of the season.”
