Alma E. Wetzel
Alma E. Wetzel, 92, of Macungie, died June 13, 2016, in the Phoebe Home, Allentown. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Alvin E. and Doris (Roth) Wetzel.
She was a 1944 graduate of West Chester University and a 1948 graduate of Penn State University and attended Temple University.
She retired in 1989 from the Upper Perkiomen School District, a member of the faculty for more than 30 years during which time she served as reading supervisor, elementary principal, elementary supervisor of instruction and classroom teacher. Previously, she was an assistant professor at what is now West Chester University, teaching first grade and kindergarten in the Demonstration School and elementary education courses in the School of Education. She also taught first grade classes in the Allentown School District and the East Greenville Elementary School. In 1990, she received the Upper Perkiomen School District’s Distinguished Service Recognition Award; the library at Hereford Elementary School was named in her honor.
She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Alburtis. She was a past consistory member, past secretary of the consistory and served on the hymnal and search committee at the church.
She is survived by brothers, Robert E., of Elizabethtown, and Charles A. and his wife Nancy, of Harleysville; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Jack D. and Richard C.
