NHS looks to build for the future
Northampton’s boys basketball team’s summer play has just begun, and the Konkrete Kids’ already have some promise for the winter.
The Kids will return three starters for the upcoming season after the loss of Mario Delker, Tyler Miller, Bryan Morris, James Frazier and Noah Rindock from last year’s squad that posted an overall 10-12 record and just missed out on the District 11 playoffs.
Delker will continue his career at Misericordia this winter.
Aidan Elwood, who played at Allentown Central Catholic last season after he played his freshman year at Northampton, is back with the Kids. He will join returnees and incoming seniors Tanner Hahn and Morgan Heffelfinger to form an effective trifecta.
“We’re excited to get Elwood back,” said head coach Coy Stampone. “He (Elwood) will definitely help us. We’re also fortunate to have Tanner (Hahn) and Morgan (Heffelfinger) back. Both of them developed into some nice players for us. They both will get plenty of playing time this winter.”
Along with the trio, Stampone expects Mike Torres, who played JV last season after transferring from Allen, and fellow JV player Jahmari Austin along with Joe Tossi to see some playing time.
Nick Filchner, whose father Duane is the program’s all-time leading scorer, will be an incoming freshman, and he should be a factor in the offense.
The K-Kids, who compete in the Stellar Summer League, will have a busy summer ahead. They will travel to Albright College to participate in a two-day team camp there, and then will be involved in the Stellar Tournament and SportsFest.
In addition, the Kids have maintained speed training/lifting sessions during the week.
Stampone believes all of the programs are valuable.
“This is the time when we get to see what we have,” he said.” We want to look at our talent. We know we will have different people at different positions.”
