Ray D. Kachelries, 88, of Emmaus, died May 30, 2016. He was married to Marilyn L. (Horn) Kachelries 56 years. Born in Coalport, Clearfield County, he was the son of the late Mary (Larsen) and Jesse Kachelries.
He served his country in Germany during World War II.
He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in engineering and earned the status of professional engineer.
He worked for several engineering firms during his professional career.
After retiring, he enjoyed working at Indian Creek Golf Course for many years.
He was a gifted athlete and superb duplicate bridge player. He was also an excellent ballroom dancer and met his wife at Arthur Murray Studios where she was a teacher and he was a student.
He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed golfing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife; son, Robert G. and his wife Susan, of Macungie; daughter, Karen K. and her husband Mark Popovich, of Coto de Caza, Calif.; four grandsons, John, David and Matthew and Kirk Popovich. He was predeceased by brothers Byron and Howard.

A celebration of his life will be held noon June 10 at Bear Creek Mountain Resort, 101 Doe Mountain Lane, Macungie.
