Whitehall Township will host a ceremony on Flag Day, June 14, to dedicate a flag pole on the future sight of a veterans memorial plaza.
Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. said the program will be simple, marking the progress committee members are making toward having the veterans memorial project become a reality - a dream some township officials and veterans have had for years.
The memorial, which is to honor all veterans in the township, is expected to be completed by Memorial Day 2017, at which time there will be a formal dedication program.
The flag pole, with a yard arm on which the pennants of the branches of the Armed Forces would be flown, was to have been placed this past Memorial Day, but its arrival was delayed.
The flag pole was donated by Gilbert Funeral Home Inc., Fullerton.
The flag pole on the south side of the municipal building, near the public meeting room, will remain.
A donated gazebo has just been placed at the veterans memorial grounds, a grass-lined plot with trees in front of the municipal building.
A granite memorial will be the centerpiece of the site.
The cost for the veterans memorial is expected to exceed $20,000.
