HST clothing drive benefits students

Happy June! We are in the home stretch of school, which is often bittersweet. Graduation is right around the corner. Good luck and best wishes to the class of 2016! May you succeed in whatever direction life takes you.

The last few weeks of school always seem to be filled with activities. This year is no exception.

The field day for Harry S Truman Elementary School kindergarten through second graders has been rescheduled....yes again! Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 1 so the students can have their outside activities.

HST is again holding a clothing drive to benefit the children of the school. Community members can bring bagged items and drop off in the trailer parked at the end of the school lot between 8 and 8:45 a.m. and between 3 and 3:45 p.m. May 31 and June 3. Items can also be dropped off during the ice cream festival noon to 4 p.m. June 4. For more information, contact Jen Kuder at jmksunflower@pts.net or Jen Gnall at Jennifer.gnall@gmail.com.

June 3 will be the annual walk-a-thon at HST. This year walkers are raising money to help with the beautification of the school flower gardens. So find your HST students and make your contributions by June 3. This is always a fun day for the children.

June 4 will be the next date to support Adam’s Fun Walk for NPC. Registration will be 8 to 9 a.m. at Salisbury High School. There is an entry fee. The start time will be 9 a.m.

All proceeds from this event will go toward the Race for Adam Foundation. For more information, call 610-866-6679 or email amyrecke@gmail.com. Online registration is also available at raceforadam.org.

The annual HST Ice Cream Festival is upon us. This year’s event will be noon to 4 p.m. June 4, rain or shine. Volunteers are still needed. If you are able to assist, contact Trell Miller at trellz@rcn.com. Hope to see you there.

The final PTO meeting of the school year will be 7 p.m. June 6 at HST.

June 6 will also be the next meeting of the operations committee in the administration building 7 p.m.

June also means it is time for the talent show. This year it will be spread out over three days. That’s a lot of talented students!

Student performances will be split with performances 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 7, 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 8 and 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 9. Congratulations to those students who have the courage to show their talents, I know I wouldn’t have been able to do that at their age (I still strongly dislike public speaking.) If you able to make one of these days, or all, come out and show support for these HST students. This is a show you won’t want to miss.

Laptop collection will begin in the middle school June 9. Make sure all important files your child wants to save are put onto a flash drive.

If your student is interested in playing a fall sport, participating in band or twirling in middle or high school, a physical will need to be done before they can participate in any practices. Physicals can be obtained at the high school for a small fee. Cash or checks payable to STSD are accepted. Refer to the school website for the schedule and plan to arrive 15 minutes prior. Enter at the old gym and make sure paperwork is filled out properly. Feel free to contact athletic/activity secretary Cherie Pennella at cpennella@salisburysd.org or 610-797-4107, ext. 2508 with any questions.

The Class of 2016 will graduate 6 p.m. June 9 at Symphony Hall. Admission is with ticket only.

Due to some snow make-up days added to the calendar, school will now be in session for full days June 9, 10 and 13. On June 14, the middle and high school will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and the elementary schools will dismiss 1 p.m.

June 15 will be the official last day of school. The middle and high school will dismiss 10:30 a.m. and the elementary schools will dismiss 11:15 a.m.

The Franko Farm yard waste site will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 11 and 14. Evening hours are 3 to 6 p.m. June 2 and 6 and on the first and third Monday and Thursday.
