Richard E. Gerhard Sr., 91, of North Catasauqua, died May 23, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He was the husband of the late Ethel (Gogle) Gerhard.

Born in Catasauqua, he was a son of the late Oliver and Elizabeth (Dillinger) Gerhard.

He was in the 2nd Marine Division during World War II and saw action in Okinawa, Saipan and Peleliu.

He was a fireman for the former Eagle Brewery, Catasauqua, and a welder for Traylor Engineering, Allentown, until he retired.

He is survived by a son, Richard E. Jr.; a daughter, Janice and her husband James Jones; three grandchildren, Amy Huselton, Bobby Jones and Richard E. Gerhard III; three great-grandchildren, Brady, Aubrie and Jayden; and a companion, Julie Guldner.

He was predeceased by three sons, Michael, Jeffrey and Kurt; four sisters; and two brothers.

Arrangements were made by Brubaker Funeral Home Inc., Catasauqua.
