Northampton Borough officials announced at the May 19 meeting the municipal pool on Laubach Avenue will open for the 2016 season June 4 and remain open daily through Aug. 13.
The pool’s closure in mid-August is attributed to a shortage of lifeguards and personnel returning back to college campuses.
Councilman Anthony Pristash, building, land and recreation chairman, said the pool fees are unchanged from 2015 for daily and season passes, individuals and families. Borough officials say they are proud of the pool’s condition and upgrades over the years, making the pool a destination in summer for the residents - young, old, singles and families.
Upgrades at the pool for this summer include new urinals in the men’s room and several Adirondack-style chairs.
The municipal pool, which dates back to the 1950s, is one of the oldest continuing operations of such pools in the region.
In other borough news, borough Community Planner Victor Rodite said Northampton County has rebuffed the borough’s request to use some of the remaining grant tallying approximately $16,000 for a vintage-style clock at Uptown Park, Main Street.
Further landscaping and possible plantings of flowers may take place. Pristash said three park benches were acquired for the park and have been installed inside the gazebo. Additionally, two umbrellas are being acquired for Uptown Park.
In other news, the recreation center will sponsor a second golf tournament fundraiser June 26 at Whitetail Golf Club in Bath.
