Memorial Day events are planned throughout the weekend in the borough and surrounding communities.
The Northampton Joint Veterans will host an 11 a.m. May 30 service at the veterans plaza, 14th Street and Washington Avenue. Members of Fred A. Snyder American Legion Post 353, Catholic War Veterans Post 454 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 will participate.
American Legion Post 426, Coplay, will begin its memorial services with a 9:30 a.m. program at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The contingent will move to locations throughout the borough before arriving at about 1 p.m. at 134 S. Second St. for its final event of the day.
American Legion Post 739, Hokendauqua, will hold its annual Memorial Day program 11 a.m. at the triangle, Third and South streets. A wreath will be placed at the base of the granite memorial. Choir members of First Presbyterian Church will provide the hymns.
Services by the Legion’s honor squad will then take place at Fairview Cemetery in West Catasauqua.
On May 30, Fred A. Reinert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, Egypt, will begin its day 9:30 a.m. with a program at the veterans monument on Main Street in Cementon, proceeding then to the World War I Doughboy monument, 10 a.m., on South Church Street in Egypt, followed up at 11 a.m. at the Navy jet fighter monument at its grounds, 5209 Springmill Road.
American Legion Post 367, Fullerton, will have a program 10 a.m. May 30 at 609 Fullerton Ave.
In Catasauqua, services are planned for May 30. American Legion Post 215 will hold services 10 a.m., Fairview Cemetery; 10:15 a.m., Pine Street Bridge; 10:30 a.m., North Catasauqua Memorial Park; and 10:45 a.m., St. Mary’s Cemetery. A program is planned for 11 a.m. at the post, 330 Second St.
