Moore Township officials resolve suspected gap in recreation tasks
Resident Dave Lack spoke during the open-to-the-floor section of the Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting May 3. During the recreation department report, a gap was evident in the handling of recreational center tasks, he said, and this seemed unsettling to Lack.
Chairman David Tashner Sr. responded to a recreation department question about help needed at the recreational center.
He said, “I was told I am not to help there.”
In response, Supervisor Richard K. Gable said, “That is only in your mind.”
Supervisors were able to review the gap and successfully close it. Everyone seemed satisfied with the process of prioritizing the needs by the recreation department and how supervisors then addressed, reasserted and agreed to the issues.
In other news, the land preservation committee reported by the end of 2016, the township will be on track to have 2,000-plus acres of farmland preserved. There also are other farms on the group’s preservation list.
After the meeting, two committee members expressed pride in what has been accomplished. They commented on the myriad number of local fruit and vegetable stands in Moore Township, where people can buy fresh, locally grown organic produce.
“This is because of farmland preservation,” one committee member said.
Tashner reported the road department is having a good season. Spring cleanup took only two days to complete, instead of the projected weeklong project.
The police chief reported during April there were 306 police incidents, 26 driving citations, two DUIs and one possession with intent to deliver narcotics incident.
In April, the fire department had 30 fire calls.
Ambulance calls were at 56 for the month of April.
The recreation department requested, and it was approved, to provide additional signs at the recreation park.
Additionally, supervisors approved getting prices for the main recreation park’s snack stand doors in need of replacement.
In passing unanimously, the title of director of public works was changed back to road supervisor. The rationale is technically there is no public works department.
Supervisors will meet again 7 p.m. June 7.
