To The Editor:
Assistant Professor Author Garrison of Kutztown University presented a recent opinion characterizing President Lincoln’s Republican campaign against slavery as an unconstitutional federal power grab from the states.
This nation was founded on the principle all men (and women) are endowed with the same rights from our Creator.
Belief in that moral principle demanded action.
Was it really George Wallace’s segregationist policies that shaped the identity of the Republican Party? Wallace was a Democrat.
It was the Progressives in both parties who fought for the segregation of the races.
A Progressive academic, Democrat Woodrow Wilson committed a huge federal power grab with the Federal Reserve Act - control of the nation’s banks, and through the 16th Amendment - control of an individual’s property, by creating the IRS.
Wilson insisted Blacks serve in segregated Armed Forces, in non-combat roles during WWI.
He feared firearms training would give Blacks the ability to defend themselves from racist attacks after the war.
Now Progressives want to restrict the firearm rights for all people.
Constitutionalism is about freedom and liberty, giving us the right to chose for ourselves without taking the rights of others.
The Progressives crave power and control over all our choices.
