NHS honors college-bound athletes

Northampton recognized 18 student-athletes that are moving onto college to continue their athletic and academic careers last Friday afternoon.

Samantha Gestl (Bloomsburg, cheerleading), Caylin Marth (Bloomsburg, cheerleading) and Rachael Pursell (Lock Haven, swimming) each signed letters of intent during the event.

For Pursell, signing with Lock Haven became an easy decision after visiting the school and getting acclimated with the coaching staff.

“The coaches and the whole atmosphere just felt more at home there,” said Pursell, who also considered Kutztown. “I’m not sure what events I’ll be competing in yet, but I’m hoping to get my times down a little bit lower.”

Mario Delker was among 15 other K-Kids in attendance that were recognized for their collegiate decisions, as the senior basketball player will be attending Misericordia University to continue his career on the hardwood.

“First time I went to visit, I just enjoyed the feeling and connected more with the campus and the kids,” Delker said. “The coaching staff likes how I play now and I’m just hoping I can contribute. Next year they’re going to have a JV team for the first time, so I know I’ll be playing one way or another.”

The rest of the K-Kid that were recognized included: Shane Aster (Indiana University of Pennsylvania, baseball); Annalise Christy (Arcadia University, swimming); Ian Csencsits (Moravian College, baseball); Shannon Dalton (Delaware Valley University, lacrosse); Sophia Eckroth (Cedar Crest College, basketball); Carly Hein (Wilkes University, cross country); Claire Gogel (DeSales University, field hockey/lacrosse)

Makenzie Kistler (Cedar Crest College, field hockey); Ian Luberti (Moravian College, baseball); Joelle Perelli (Pennsylvania College of Technology, cross country); Tanner Smith (Wilkes University, lacrosse);

William Stackhouse (Moravian College, baseball); Lauren Sterner (King’s College, track and field) and

Shannon Wittreich (Misericordia University, cheerleading).
