CWSA annual review is May 19

Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority (CWSA) Chairman John Schreiner said the authority’s annual review meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. May 19.

This year, the meeting was delayed one month while data was being compiled. The annual meeting is a comprehensive review of administrative, engineering and legal issues facing the authority. Each speaker will review the past year’s performance, make recommendations based on their audits and evaluate the authority’s performance in relation to other municipal entities across the state.

In other business, Solicitor John Stover asked the board to approve a resolution where the authority will share fees for a lawsuit against the City of Allentown over concerns of payments made for the use of the Allentown Wastewater Treatment Plant. All municipalities that use the treatment plant are part of the lawsuit. CWSA agreed to pay 21 percent of the costs. Law firm Florio, Perucci, Steinhardt, Fader LLC was hired by the municipalities to present their case.

Board member Joseph Marx reported inspections of ratepayers’ homes and businesses required by an EPA mandate reached 94 percent. Structures are inspected to determine if rain water is pumped into sewer lines. Rain water does not need to be treated at a wastewater plant. Eliminating clear water from the sewer system prolongs the life of the wastewater plant and keeps rates low.
