Marian S. Wilfinger

Marian S. Wilfinger, 92, of the Phoebe Home, formerly of Emmaus, died April 22, 2016, at Hospice of the VNA of St. Luke’s, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Alfred A. “Fritz” Wilfinger. They were married 51 years until his death in 1998. Born in Emmaus, she was the daughter of the late Raymond C. Schaffer and Viola M. (Engleman) Schaffer and stepmother Florence Schaffer.

She graduated in 1941 from Emmaus High School and in 1945 graduated from Kutztown State Teachers College.

She taught elementary education for 38 years at Stevens, Lower Macungie and Lincoln schools in the East Penn School District.

She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Emmaus, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, sang in the choir and belonged to the “10-2” club.

She was a volunteer at the Phoebe Home, enjoyed playing the piano, solving crossword puzzles and attending musical shows. She loved spending time with her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Yvonne Corby and her companion Ed Fitzpatrick and her sons Shawn and Brandon; son, Ronald and his wife Louanne and their daughters, Christa and Chelsey; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jaxon and Gavin.

Contributions may be made to the Phoebe Home, 1925 W. Turner St., Allentown, 18104 or to Hospice of the VNA of St. Luke’s, 2455 Black River Road, Bethlehem, 18105.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. April 29 at St. John’s UCC, 139 N. 4th St., Emmaus. Viewings will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 28 at the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. April 29 in the church.
