Wallace A. Schlegel

Wallace A. Schlegel, 87, of Moore Township, died April 3, 2016, at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. He was the husband of Joan (Landrock) Schlegel.

Born in Red Lion, he was a son of the late Dr. Albert G. W. and Alice C. (Hess) Schlegel.

He was a 1946 Belleview High School graduate. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from Penn State College, a master’s degree in engineering from Lehigh University and a professional engineering certificate from the state of Pennsylvania.

He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

A flute and piccolo player, he was a member of Allentown Pioneer Band, Macungie Band, Lehighton Band and, at college, Penn State Blue Band.

He owned and operated Schlegel’s Christmas Tree Farm, Moore Township.

He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Nazareth.

He was a member of Manoquesy Lodge No. 413, Bath, and a former member of Slatington Flying Club, which operated out of Lehigh Valley International Airport.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Randall S. and his fiancé Sharon Burrell of Northampton; a stepdaughter, Cynthia L. (Gray) Herman and her companion Rick Furler of Coplay; a stepson, Bruce L. and his wife Kathleen Gray of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a sister, Lorie A. Dotter of Northampton; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Trevor and Martha.

He was predeceased by a son, Todd A. Schlegel; and his first wife, Lucile (Mengle) Schlegel-Johnson.
