Norman W. Curtis

Norman W. Curtis, 90, of Harpswell, Maine, formerly of Macungie, died April 5, 2016, in Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick, Maine. He was the husband of the late Paulina L. (Leatherman) Curtis. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Louis E. Curtis, Jr. and the late Marie E. (Hodgdon) Curtis-Sawyer.

He was a graduate of Brunswick High School and held a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and physics from the University of Maine. He completed the Columbia University Executive Program and was a Registered Professional Engineer, a Charter Member of the American Nuclear Society and was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers.

He was the former vice-president of Nuclear Engineering and Construction of Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. He joined PP&L as a handyman and over his 35 year career, served in a number of management positions, including Superintendent System Operation, Manager Power Supply, Construction Manager and Vice-President Engineering and Construction. He served as project manager of the two unit Susquehanna Nuclear Plant during most of its construction.

Following his retirement, he joined a number of other electrical utility and Navy executives in forming the Delta Group. This organization provided consulting services throughout the electric utility industry but specialized in advising clients on matters relating to nuclear plant safety and effective operation.

After retiring from the Delta Group, he moved to Harpswell, Maine, in order to enjoy his favorite hobbies of fishing, boating, gardening, photography and the friendship of his neighbors.

He is survived by a son, Andrew D. and his wife Beverly R., of Center Valley; sisters, Pauline Clifford, of Baton Rouge, La. and Sally E. Hartikka, of Derry, N.H. and two grandchildren, Andrew M. and Alexandra.
