Faith V. Madarassy
Faith Vandever Madarassy, 90, of Emmaus, formerly of Wilmington, Del., died peacefully April 3, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Arthur M. Madarassy.
Born in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Margaret (Braunstein) Vandever.
She was the first and only woman in her class at the University of Delaware’s Mechanical Engineering College where she met and married her first husband, John W. Gottschall, who died in 1967.
During World War II, she was employed as a propeller test engineer at Hamilton Standard. She was also a talented and beloved first grade teacher for The Tatnall School in Delaware from 1971 to 1988.
She lived in Wilmington, Del. for over 75 years. Vandever Avenue in downtown Wilmington is named for her family.
Her life’s passion was playing the piano. She was an accomplished classical pianist, continuing to study and teach until very recently.
She was warmhearted, intelligent and kind with an exceptionally positive outlook on life. She dearly loved her family, friends and pets. She also loved music, dancing, singing and playing bridge and had a wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Margaret and her husband Patrick Burke, of Emmaus; Catherine and her husband Richard Kendall, of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; Ruth Gottschall and her husband Blaise James, of New York, N.Y.; son, John Gottschall and his wife Marylin, of Pinellas Park, Fla.; grandchildren, Glenn Herman and his wife Sierra, Faye Kendall and her husband Marcos Garcia, Tessa Wigand and her husband Per; three great-grandsons.
