Egypt church welcomes pastor
The Rev. Dr. J. Bradley Roth on Sunday took the helm as pastor of Egypt Community Church, whose rich history dates back to 1734, making it one of the oldest houses of worship in the Lehigh Valley.
Prior to his new role at Egypt Community Church, Roth served a Mont Clare, Montgomery County, congregation.
“I am humbled,” Roth said, speaking of his excitement and joy in being chosen by the search committee to lead a church with such a compelling history and a committed congregation.
Roth is also a singer and guitar player, and his rich voice filled every church pew during verses such as “Lead Me, Guide Me.”
Roth knelt for the commissioning of the new pastor as the Rev. Randy Ott, presiding; David Focht, a church elder; and Roth’s family placed their hands on Roth.
In his address, Ott made a challenge to Roth on his new ministry. Focht made a challenge of faith to the congregation.
Bonnie L. Fink, consistory president, welcomed Roth to Egypt Community Church.
“The Lord has seen fit to have me serve Him as a pastor, worship pastor, youth pastor, Christian radio personality, Bible teacher, chaplain, professional Christian musician and marriage counselor,” Roth said. “There are three kinds of people - those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened.”
The church’s roots began as a Reformed congregation, a forerunner of the United Church of Christ denomination, until a decade ago when it became Egypt Community Church.
Roth succeeds the Rev. Larry Pickar, who retired.
