Doris E. Gibson, 94, of Allentown, died on March 12, 2016, at Phoebe Home, Allentown. She was the husband of the late William A. Gibson Jr. for 70 years.

Born in Toronto, Canada, she lived and attended school in Hanover, Ontario, Canada.

A member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall, for more than 70 years, she sang with the choir for 40 years, was deeply involved in the Women’s Club, serving as program director and singing in the club’s chorus.

She was among the first lay pastoral visitors and was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary for Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

For many years, she volunteered her time fundraising for the United Way and organizing the Allentown Symphony Ball, often handwriting hundreds of invitations for the event.

She is survived by a son Thomas D. Gibson; a daughter Mariellen Gibson-Butler and her husband Kenneth Butler of Doylestown; and three grandchildren Alex, Abigail and Michael Butler.
