LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Pate boys eye berth

Tony Fabrizio thinks this can be a year that Freedom’s boys lacrosse program can turn some heads. With another year of development under their sleeves, the relative newcomer on the block hopes to make a lasting impression this spring, with a large returning group of players from last year’s 4-11 season.

“This isn’t the Freedom team from years past,” said Fabrizio. “The kids are buying into what I’m looking to do as a coach, which I think will favor us positively in the season. This year, I believe we will turn some heads in the Lehigh Valley.”

Back for the squad are Brady Hornbaker (Jr., defense), Joe Dittmar (Sr., defense), Hunter Hostage (Sr., goalie) and Colin Harms (So., midfield).

Fabrizio is also looking for several freshmen to step up and make an impact on the team with the likes of Justin Kinter at attack, Max Stevens facing off and Josh Millan playing defense and LSM.

“The biggest area we need to improve this year is just general lacrosse knowledge,” Fabrizio said. “Being a newer program, we struggle grasping some key concepts of the game. With practice we hope to overcome this.”

The Pates were off to a 1-1 start on the season, falling victim to a 16-2 defeat to EPC power Easton last week. Freedom did win their opener over Pleasant Valley 12-6.

With Nazareth and Liberty on the docket this week, the Pates are looking for progress.

“I believe we have the talent and work ethic to make the league and district playoffs,” Fabrizio said. “It’s been something that I’ve told my players since our first fall practice.”
