Liberty tennis without a loss

Liberty’s boys’ tennis team remained undefeated after its 6-1 victory over Northampton last Thursday.

Liberty’s one and two singles players, Dan Lynn and Luke Conrad, defeated their opponents with relative ease, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3, but the rest of Thursday’s matches were more competitive.

Northampton’s only win came at number three singles where Andrew Hozza defeated Milind Jagota 7-5, 7-5.

At number two doubles, Jesse Claudio and Duke Jin won their match for the Hurricanes 7-5, 6-3.

“First set, we warmed up to them. Second set, we got to them,” Claudio said.

Both solid servers, Claudio was having trouble getting his serves in on Thursday as his strings began to weaken. That, along with communication trouble caused the tight first set.

“We were usually ahead, but they would catch up,” said Claudio. “We figured it out in the second set.”

This is the first year Claudio and Jin have played together.

“The second set was better,” Jin said. “Patience, my coach tells me to have patience.”

At third doubles, Jacob Berg and Mike Noble won for Liberty 6-2, 6-3, and at fourth doubles, Marc Burritt and Gavin Snyder won 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) also for the Hurricanes.

Later in the match, Liberty’s Colin Bokan and Milo Foell won 8-1 at number one doubles.

Also last week, Bethlehem Catholic lost to Allentown Central Catholic 5-2 and Nazareth 7-0.
