Whitehall ‘Guys & Dolls’

“It’s a big song and dance show, and it’s not easy to do, but it’s a lot of fun and family friendly to watch,” says director Andrew Borghesani of “Guys & Dolls,” to be staged 7 p.m. April 7, 8 and 9 and 2 p.m. April 10, auditorium, Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road, Whitehall Township.

“The romantic musical comedy showcases every aspect of the many talented students we have here in Whitehall, especially the strong male ensemble we have in the cast of 31 players.” says Borghesani, director of choirs and theater at Whitehall High School.

Vocal director is Borghesani. Assistant director is Monique Haney. Choreographer is Melissa Keiser. Music director and rehearsal accompanist is Randy Dellavechia.

“Guys & Dolls” is based on stories and characters by Damon Runyon, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 1950 and ran for 1,200 performances. The show won a Tony award for best musical. Several Broadway and London revivals followed over the years. A 1955 film version of “Guys & Dolls” starred Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine.

The show is well-known its many classic songs such as the title song, as well as “Lucky Be a Lady” and “A Bushel and A Peck.”
