Bethlehem Catholic ‘Wonderful Town’

“Our upbeat musical production is about a trip to New York City in 1935 during the era of big bands and big dreams for two sisters who leave their small home-town in Ohio to take on the big city,” says Debbie Acampora, director of “Wonderful Town,” 7 p.m. April 8, 9, 15, 16 and 2 p.m. April 10, auditorium, Bethlehem Catholic High School, 2133 Madison Avenue, Bethlehem.

“We are always looking for musicals that can involve a large cast with challenging vocal and dance parts, and ‘Wonderful Town’ is a perfect fit for our 60 performers,” says Acampora. “We also select family-friendly shows since Becahi offers two daytime shows for local elementary school students.”

Choreographer and set designer is Acampora. Musical director and orchestra conductor is Joseph Fink. Acting coach is Sean Hartman. Vocal coach is Donald Nixon. Technical director is D.J. Seibert. Costume coordinator is Kristin Dundon. Executive director of Becahi Theater is Diana Tice.

The Tony award-winning show opened on Broadway in 1953, starring Rosalind Russell and Edith Adams as the two aspiring sisters. The show ran for 559 performances. A 2003 Broadway revival played for 497 shows.

The shows memorable songs include “A Little Bit in Love,” “Conga,” “It’s Love,” “Swing” and “Ohio.”
