William “Pops” S. Schlitter, 78, of Allentown, died Feb. 23, 2016, in his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Szoke) Schlitter for 53 years.

Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Albert and Irene Schlitter. He was in high school in Dallas where he was in the FFA and played football.

He was in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed overseas.

He was a machinist.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Linda, Robert and Ruth Schlitter and Judy and Ed Staats; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Kyle, William, Thomas and Elijah; a great-grandson, Jaxon; three siblings, Yvonne, Sandra and Lawrence; nieces; and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald.

There will be a service 11 a.m. April 2 in the Mausoleum Chapel, Cedar Hill Memorial Park, 1700 Airport Road, Allentown, 18109.

Military honors will be provided by Northampton VFW Post 4714.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
