Earl S. Smith

Earl S. Smith, 83, of Macungie, died March 27, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Leona J. (Oswald) Smith. They were married 61 years. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Samuel G. and Lydia (Siegfried) Smith.

He was a self-employed masonry contractor at Earl S. Smith & Sons Masonry.

He was a lifetime class president of Emmaus High School, Class of 1951 and was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus.

He served in the Tank Co., 9th Infantry, 2nd Division in Korea when the truce was signed and attained the rank of Sgt. 1st Class.

He was a member of Mid Atlantic Branch 2nd (Indian Head) Division Association, life member of VFW Post #9264, Macungie, the Mercantile Club and a former Kiwanian, serving as past president.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Karen and her husband Ken Plarr, Kathryn and her husband Dan Crist; sons, Eric and his wife Angie, all of Macungie and Brian and his wife Nancy, of Emmaus; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Stella Nester; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by seven brothers, four sisters and a grandson, Sgt. Joshua B. Smith.

Contributions may be made to the church.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. April 2 at The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 3461 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Emmaus. A calling hour will be held 9:30 to 11 a.m. April 2 in the church. Arrangements were made by the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Emmaus.
