LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

’Canes start off well

Liberty High School’s tennis team has opened its season against Poconos-based teams with a record of 3-0.

Returning to number one singles is junior, Dan Lynn, who had a big win last week in the Hurricanes’ match against Stroudsburg.

Luke Conrad, a junior who played doubles last year, is playing at number two singles, and senior, Milind Jagota, is Liberty’s number three singles player.

“Luke definitely improved since last year,” said Hurricane tennis coach Leo Schnalzer, “and Milind just played his first match on Friday because he was at a science Olympiad.”

Senior, Jesse Claudio, and sophomore, Duke Jin, are playing at number two doubles.

Schnalzer is still experimenting with pairs at three and four doubles.

Most recently, senior, Mike Noble, and sophomore, Gavin Snyder, played at three, and sophomore, Colin Bokan, and senior, Milo Foell, played at number four.

“It’s still early in the season, but I think we’ll be pretty solid once everything gets together,” Schnalzer said.

Other players who may play at doubles are sophomore, Marc Burritt, and freshman, Jacob Berg.

“I think we’ll do well with competitive matches in the Lehigh Valley,” said Schnalzer. “We’ll have competitive matches with Parkland and Beca, and Freedom will be a good match. Emmaus is not on our schedule this year, but they have a pretty solid team, and we don’t play Nazareth, but I know they’re strong.”
