Becahi tops Northampton
An explosive sixth inning for Bethlehem Catholic’s softball team assured the Hawks of an 11-1 victory over Northampton last Thursday.
“It feels good,” said Becahi right fielder Brooke Rau. “It definitely gets a lot of nerves and jitters out, but it gives us a lot of confidence.”
Rau had an RBI double during the Hawks’ sixth inning burst.
“I really was just looking to move the runners, and a couple were on base,” she said.
Becahi pitcher, Elyse Cuttic, also had a double in the same inning.
“I thought it would be an outside pitch, but I was trying to look in,” she said.
Being back on the mound to start the regular season was what Cuttic had been waiting for.
“It was exciting to get back out there,” Cuttic said. “I think I had jitters in the first inning. I hit the first girl, but the whole team had my back.”
Also in the sixth inning, Tasha Miner hit a triple, scoring Jess Indelicato, who got on base with a double, and avoided a tag at home plate.
Northampton’s only run was scored by Maura Moser after her triple to left field in the fifth inning.
The Hawks had scored two runs early in the game, but those runs came as a result of errors and walks by the K-Kids.
Cuttic, however, was quick to point out Northampton’s ability and potential.
“They are a good, quality team,” Cuttic said. “They came ready to play.”
This Wednesday, the Hawks will host Whitehall, and travel to Emmaus on Friday.
